Thank you! Very helpful information. I appreciate your saying anything we spend in other cities Lafayette gets zero. I’ve mentioned this to my neighbors, many of whom shop at Kings on S Boulder because it’s a little closer. Hopefully they will shift to the new Kings (it’s further but shiny new). I know we are sharing revenue but it’s better than nothing, IMO.
I'm glad it's useful! Yes, shop local is something I have been talking about for years. Most people have no reason to really think about where they shop in relation to the effect on the city finances. It tends to be a matter of convenience or preference. When you look at how much sales taxes fund the city it is important.
Karen, I think this takes us back to the 9 mile deal and some loss of sales tax revenue that we have little to no means of recovering from another source.... am I right?
Well I guess that hinges on what Kroger does with the empty building. Can they find a tenant that will bring in enough sales taxes to cover what we have lost? They won't care about that of course. And the question is what will we really lose? How much were we getting and what will we get from the new Kings in Erie? That is proprietary information so we'll never know exact numbers.
Thanks again...clear as mud.
