I haven't heard anything more about the properties I wrote about here. There isn't anything about a bar. What building or business are you referring to? 😊
Very disappointed in the plans for the 707 building. Tearing it down is not in keeping with the comp plan's emphasis on sustainability, adaptive reuse and preserving our history, and what is creative, eclectic and funky about its boring white-box design?
Yes it's disappointing. I hope the blue building is saved. When there are three potential landmarking options available there should be a discussion involved before it's too late.
I really love the rendering of that bakery at 707. Do you know what the white buildings on either side are supposed to be? They both appear not to have windows, so I'm assuming some kind of storage or something? Also, I'm so interested in the plan for a public gathering space at 701, and while the description of it's goals and qualities is pretty clear, I'm having a hard time visualizing just what would be there. I'm sure that will unfold as the plan solidifies. I'm just really curious about the physical space and what would occupy it.
I think those might be representations of the buildings on each side, Deluxe Liquors and the blue building.
There is no description of a plan for 701 at this point. We made a pitch to the city about what it could be and that's what's in the post. The city will no doubt hire a company to design it. We were thinking of a overarching vision that pulled in a variety of values that are important to the community at this point in time. A gathering place, alternate energy, low water plantings, pollinator awareness, art, adaptive reuse of buildings or materials, recycling.
I am thinking of a path through some gardens and art pieces, lit with solar, with places for people to sit and relax.
Any updates on these? Looks like shaved ice may have replaced the bar?
