I’ve been updating you on the latest development to present itself, this one on both sides of Baseline at 120th. The developer, hailing from Texas, is holding a neighborhood meeting this week to tell us all the details.
Date: Thursday, Feb. 27
Time: 5:45pm
Location: Confluence Small Business Collective
Address: 75 Waneka Parkway. This is behind Romero’s K-9 Club. You can stop for a drink after the meeting!
As I mentioned in my first post about these properties, they have long been on our open space committee’s acquisition wish list and are now a top priority.
In my second post about this area, “Why we must preserve the land at Baseline and 120th” I went into detail about the incredible ecosystem they are part of, what has been purchased for open space around them, and why this land is the missing piece of the puzzle that will complete, and save, the rural entrance to Lafayette at the eastern end of the city.
Here’s where they are.
My fellow political hobbyists and I have banded together once more and created Preserve Lafayette. You can learn more about us here. On the homepage of our website, it says “Preserve Lafayette is working to ensure Lafayette’s eastern gateway stays rural and undeveloped for centuries to come. Please join us.”
We created the website, PreserveLafayette.org, to share information about this rural area to our east, provide a list of FAQs, and give you a method to sign up for the latest news on this development. I will continue to update you about this project and other Lafayette-related topics here on Substack. But if you want one place to find more info about this project to share with your friends and neighbors, the website is the place to go.
Please come to the Thursday meeting to learn what is being proposed for this land and to share your thoughts. The land is in Boulder County and will require annexing to Lafayette before it can be developed. Annexing is far from a slam dunk, the city council can say no. Should the council vote to approve this annexation, Preserve Lafayette will follow all legal procedures to challenge it.
Want to offer more support? Awesome!
What happened after I had to leave for another meeting at 6:15. I was SO furious at their attitude.
I cannot make the meeting. Am deeply opposed to this. What can I do aside from attending the meeting?
