"Linear Park," LOL. I guess "Parking Strip Median" didn't sound as attractive. What a lovely and safe area for children to play. Or community members could gather—as long as they set up their chairs in a line so as to not encroach on the parking spaces.
It’s so generic and ugly. I’m actually pretty embarrassed that Lafayette can’t do anything out of the ordinary then calls itself eclectic. Especially when all it’s citizens want open space, greenery, bike paths, and less parking lots.
One of the LOSAC members called it a "typical American auto forward setting". I wrote it down in my notes because he nailed it. There is nothing special or different about this. The developers are just trying to squeeze as much on the property as they can.
LOSAC is the only committee whose meetings I try not to miss. Been going monthly since 2015 probably missing less than five meetings in that time.
I have also attended every meeting about this project and after they happen I go back to LOSAC and mention how people speak about that detention pond and how much they cherish it. (Most call it the wetland but that's an official term that doesn't apply, though it sounds much better!)
There are some changes being made in how LOSAC gets to provide input and I have also been speaking to council about that. This meeting was the first time I have seen developers as part of the meeting. Usually they are not there. I was kind of peeved to see them invited to the table. Then they gave a presentation and again I was all "what is this?"
However, this turned out to be a great change because they gave their spiel and then the committee members got to speak to them directly, ask questions and provide input. I don't think the developers were prepared for what they heard. I was really proud of the committee, they truly spoke to the issues. :-)

It conjures up many opportunities for future memories! And the inhalement of fumes.
I just snorted.
Haha!
