As so often happens when we have a council election, we see the sitting council conduct their last meeting and say goodbye to councilors who are leaving. Last night was no exception, the council approved the hiring of Kady Doelling as our new city administrator and said goodbye to Councilors Walton and Medrano. The meeting was then adjourned.
The recently elected councilors were sworn in by our city judge and after time for family photos, they took their seats. When a new council is seated there is no longer a mayor or mayor pro tem. At the first meeting of a newly seated council, the first action taken is to vote for the new mayor and mayor pro tem. Councilors nominate candidates and a written ballot is given to each member. The city clerk and the city attorney look at the ballots and the city clerk announces who received the most votes.
Last night now Councilor JD Mangat, was nominated again for mayor, this time by Councilor Crystal Gallegos, he was the sole nominee and received 7 votes.
Councilor Tim Barnes nominated Councilor Nicole Samson for mayor pro tem and Councilor Tapia Vega nominated Councilor Brian Wong.
5 votes for Councilor Wong and 2 votes for Councilor Samson, means our new mayor pro tem is once more Brian Wong.
Thanks, Karen
