It's Old Town Garden Tour time again!
The 10th almost-annual tour will be held on Saturday June 17 2023, from 9:00 to 2:00
Thanks to Vicky Uhland for providing me with the poster and the following description of what you can find on the tour this year!
With all of this rain, Lafayette’s annual Old Town Garden Tour promises to be in full bloom. This year’s tour, which will be held Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., features six Old Town gardens and the Wilson Community Garden. Tickets are $15 each and are available in advance at LafayetteOldTownGardenTour.org or on the day of the tour at Lafayette Florist, 600 S. Public Road. A group of local gardeners, Lafayette Friends of the Garden, organizes and manages the tour, and proceeds fund grants to improve Old Town gardens.
One of the coolest things about the Lafayette Old Town Garden Tour is that these are all homegrown gardens, and the gardeners will be on hand to share their strategies and answer questions. You’ll see show-stopping flower gardens, a prairie-native plant garden, xeric gardens, a cactus garden, an extensive vegetable garden, an eco-friendly water feature, and sculpture gardens made by local artists. You can learn how to create an entirely organic yard and garden, build a water catchment system, design a garden on a sloping lot, and more. Hope to see you there!
Check out the resources page on the garden tour site which, as Vicky mentions, is run by Lafayette Friends of the Garden (LFROG, so awesome). As a gardener I got pulled in pretty quickly. It’s got links to some great demonstration gardens plus the Plant Select site.
That Plant Select site is where I spent some time perusing. Oh look at this, oh what’s that, oh this is cool, etc. etc. If you are new to gardening or to gardening in Colorado and don’t know about these plants I urge you to take a look. If you’re part of an HOA and are thinking about water usage there is a section specifically for you. I never would have known about the site if not for LFROG!
