The Council’s May workshop was canceled due to the lack of quorum (at least 4 members could not attend). One of the items at the workshop was Republic Services Annual Report Overview. That report has been moved to the council’s June 4th meeting.
This move now allows official input to the council by those of you who wish to say a word or three about Republic’s service, good or bad. There is no public input at workshops, but at a council meeting, you have a variety of methods to express yourself, scroll down to see the options.
You can read the report in the council’s packet online here. It starts on page 6.
Providing the council with your input for this meeting allows them to ask Republic’s representatives questions after their presentation.
I haven't heard as many complaints as in the past. Hopefully, that’s a good sign but this is the ideal time to speak up.
From the staff memo:
“Executive Summary

The new contract began on October 1, 2022. As part of their contract responsibility, Republic Services must submit an annual report containing information such as opportunities and challenges during the year, summary of monthly customer requests, complaints and resolutions, diversion metrics, and more. Want to offer more support? Awesome!
I am not happy that we were forced to go with a more expensive provider instead of through our HOA. This was literally an inflation of over 100%!! And if we didn't go with the city the city would TAX us with a BS charge forcing our hand. With exponential rising costs of water, housing, electricity, this felt like a money grab from the City. A forced monopoly on waist connection without regard to the people and community it impacted. Abuse of power.
