Lafayette enacts Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on Aug. 2
The Lafayette City Administrator, in consultation with the Fire Chief, has authorized the elevated implementation of Stage 2 Fire Restrictions for all areas within Lafayette city limits effective at 7am on August 2, 2024. These fire restrictions are being implemented due to low moisture conditions, the forecast for high temperatures, and increased fire danger.
The Lafayette Fire Department aligns with Boulder County and evaluates current conditions, including data produced by the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) and the National Weather Service, to make a restriction determination.
There are currently no wildfires directly affecting the City of Lafayette. These restrictions will assist to prevent additional fires from occurring and ensure resources can remain focused on the wildfires across the region and state.
The Lafayette Stage 2 Fire Restriction PROHIBITS:
Charcoal barbeques and grills on private or public property
Outdoor fire in an established pit or device on private property (wood, pellets, etc..)
Smoking outdoors except on private property that is concrete, asphalt, or on barren ground
Fireworks (always prohibited regardless of restriction level unless a permit is obtained for a professional display)
Discharging a firearm (always prohibited regardless of restriction level)
Open burning (ditches, fields)
All explosives and permitted explosives
The Lafayette Stage 2 Fire Restriction ALLOWS:
Welding or spark generating activities in a 10-foot cleared area with an extinguisher present
Propane or natural gas grills
Propane or natural gas fire pits
Chainsaw equipped with a spark arrestor and with an extinguisher and round-point shovel present

National Night Out Tuesday, August 6, 2024, 6 PM-8 PM
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police/community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out (NNO) enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Neighborhoods throughout Lafayette are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for a crime and drug prevention event. Residents are encouraged to host block parties or cookouts or just gather outside with neighbors. If you have an event and would like Lafayette Police and Fire Departments to stop by, please contact LPD Sgt. Molander. jeremy.molander@lafayetteco.gov Registration on NNO's website is not necessary for LPD to visit your event, but you can find resources and inspiration there for your event!
Residents are also asked to turn on outside lights for the evening in support of this unified effort of crime and drug prevention in your neighborhood.
