Sorry for the late notice on this survey but it won’t take long for you to complete.
GIVE YOUR INPUT ON DOWNTOWN
A survey will be open through Dec 23
In November voters in a specific area of Lafayette approved a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and associated funding. The next step is the finalization of the DDA, the creation of a governing board, and the formal adoption of the guiding document currently in draft form.
Above is the new district map that will replace the current urban renewal area. It has been expanded and tweaked a bit.
I wrote about this before the election if you would like more background. In a nutshell, the funding mechanism for the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) has ended after 25 years. The current urban renewal district covered by LURA includes sections of Baseline, Public Rd and, E. Simpson St. The funding comes from a combination of sales and property taxes collected in the district via a method called tax increment funding or TIF. We will now have a new district, board, and guiding document with the same type of funding.
Here’s a draft copy of the new guiding document called the Old Town Tomorrow Action Plan. When created the new DDA board will vote to adopt this plan thus its current draft form. You can also find it on the Lafayette Listens page. I wanted to give you a direct link to the document but there were issues when I tried to do that, sorry.
You can find more information about the process that created this plan and the DDA on the Lafayette Listens page along with the survey and a poll in tabs at the bottom of the page.
